Aerial view of the North Fork Fire taking its toll of a lodgepole pine (Pinus m urrayana) forest, with clouds of smoke rising to an altitude of 20,000 feet. T he fire is moving north from Old Faithful along Obsidian Creek towards Mammoth Hot Springs. The North Fork Fire was one of eight giant fires which ravaged Yellowstone Nati onal Park and the surrounding area in September 1987.
